Alessandra Vanzella-Khouri

Programme Officer at UNEP-CEP

Alessandra Vanzella-Khouri is a Colombian marine microbiologist. For the last 20 years she has worked on coastal and marine environmental issues in Latin America and the Caribbean and is currently Programme Officer for the Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Kingston, Jamaica.

She promotes and coordinates activities with governments and organisations in the Wider Caribbean on biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of coastal and marine resources, marine protected areas, conservation of threatened and endangered species and other related issues.

She is also the UNEP-CEP Secretariat officer responsible for the regional biodiversity treaty on Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife for the Wider Caribbean (SPAW Protocol) and serves on a number of committees of regional environmental initiatives and projects.
