Ana Paula Leite Prates

Coordinator in ICMBio – Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade

Ana Paula Leite Prates graduated in Fishing Engineering from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (1987), gained a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of São Paulo (1993),  a PhD in Ecology from the University of Brasilia (2003) and Post-doctorate in Social Psychology of Communities and Social Ecology – EICOS Program / UFRJ (2014).

She has worked as environmental analyst in the Brazilian Ministry of Environment since 1996, where she was Aquatic Biodiversity and Fisheries Manager (2004-2010), Director of Protected Areas (2011-2013) and Special Adviser in the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of Brazil (2014-2015). Now a professor of the Master’s Programme of Biodiversity in Protected Areas (JBRJ / ICMBIO), she is the Brazilian focal point in international conventions and member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas.

She has extensive experience in marine ecology, coastal and marine conservation areas, wetland conservation, coral reefs and environmental policies. She is currently coordinator in ICMBio – Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade (the Brazilian Protected Areas and Biodiversity Institute).
