Marine Protected Area managers and other stakeholders from around the Atlantic Basin took part in a successful Project Kick-Off Workshop on 16-17 October in Brussels. Participants shared their good practices – from Mexico, Spain, Saint-Martin, Gabon, Cape Verde, Guatemala, Mauritania and Colombia – and their previous experience of partnership projects – between the French Caribbean and North America, and between countries of Central and South America. Officials from European Union institutions welcomed the participants and described how the project would contribute to EU commitments to build real transatlantic partnerships as well as improve management of marine and coastal habitats and species conservation. The project team detailed their work on the Atlantic MPA scoping study and base map.
